IDTenant FAQ for Tenants

IDTenant FAQ

1. How long does it take to Certify my Identity with IDTenant?

Your IDTenant report will be forwarded to your email address within a few hours if you apply during normal working hours. If you apply during evenings, bank holidays or week-ends, you may experience a delayed response until the next working day.

2. What personal information is required to obtain IDTenant Certification?

The minimum information required is the applicant's title, first name, surname, present UK address and date of birth. In order to improve the rating quality, it is recommended that you fill-in all additional information requested.

If you have lived at your current address for less than 3 years, your should provide your previous address(es). Make sure you are or have been registered to vote at the addresses you provide.

3. Can I show my IDTentant Certification to a Prospective Landlord?

Yes. All Landlords registered with LetMeDo may use IDTenant during their selection process. Other Landlords may also use the report. Please note that A Landlord will not form a decision to make you an offer based solely on this report.

4. Does IDTenant give me an indication on how a Landlord may view my application?

IDTenant is a means of providing identification through electronic verification. If you achieve a high score, you can be confident that you should not be asked further proof of identity. A higher score usually speeds up the process of obtaining an offer. If you obtain a lower score, you may be asked to produce further documentary proof of your Identity.

Identification is one of the criteria used to evaluate a tenant's applicaton. Professional Landlords also consider other criteria including credit rating, affordability checks, banking, present landlord and employer references and whether you have a guarantor.

5. How long is my IDTenant report valid for?

IDTenant reports are valid for 90 days from the date the report is created.

6. I cannot find one ore more of my current or previous addresses when I apply.

LetMeDo uses the most recent address database published by Royal Mail. In a very small number of cases, you may be providing an address line and postcode which the Royal Mail has changed. It is normally possible to obtain the new address as recorded by Royal Mail. This can be obtained by contacting Royal Mail or by visiting their website.

7. Can IDTenant be used to verify foreign addresses?

IDTenant can only be used for candidates that are currently resident in the UK. Regretfully, we cannot certifiy candidates with a foreign address. If you are currently resident abroad, you may contact companies that specialise in international and credit references.

8. How can I improve my rating?

Make sure you are registered with the electoral roll at your present address of residence. Please note that there may be a time lapse from the time you registered to vote to the time your details appear in electronic versions of the public register. Therefore we recommend that you should always register as soon as you move to your new address.

Always provide your home telephone number. Your rating may improve if you receive telephone bills in your name or your family's name.

Make sure you provide your previous and your previous previous address if you have been resident at your present address for less than 3 years.

If you have recently changed your name, for example through marriage, you may not be recognized using your new name. Providing your alias ensures that you can be positively identified. Furthermore, if you are financially associated with another person, providing the association details may give further proof of address.

9. I have a low rating, what can I do to improve the confidence in my profile?

In most cases a low rating simply means that you have to provide further proof of Identity. Depending on the rating you have achieved your Landlord should be able to specify what further proof of address and identity is required.

10. Is there any risk in providing a copy of my IDTenant report to a Prospective Landlord?

The IDTenant report provides details of your identification score while not revealing ony of your personal details other than your title, first name and surname. This ensures that your personal data is kept safe should the report end up in the hands of a fraudster. If you are uncertain about a prospective landlord, always fill-in yourself all personal data relating to you and forward a copy of the report to your prospective landlord. This is more secure than providing an application form to a prospective landlord with all your personal details.
